September, 2017 - Member of the Month - Rebecca Schwartz

We congratulate Rebecca "Becky" Schwartz for being nominated and selected as the September, 2017 member of the month!  Read about Becky here, congrats!

1.  Tell us a little bit about yourself?  Where you grew up, what you do for work, etc?

After growing up in central PA, I came to DC to attend law school and have lived here for 14 years - I now live in the Bloomingdale neighborhood with my Pomeranian, Mitzi.  I am a communications law attorney working for the FCC.

2.  When did you get into running?  Have any favorite race distances?

I ran long distance track in high school and started doing organized distances races in law school for fun and to stay in shape.  I have run at least 2 dozen half-marathons and 11 marathons.  My favorite marathons include Niagara Falls International Marathon, where you cross the U.S./Canada border, and the San Francisco Marathon, where you run over the Golden Gate Bridge.

3.  I understand you have hosted some charitable events, can you please tell us a little bit more about this?

I host an annual "Chili and Cocktails for a Cure" and co-host an annual happy hour, "Raise a Pint for Hope," to raise money for brain cancer research and the Race for Hope, in honor of my husband, Greg Milkovich.  The Race for Hope is a 5K run/walk that starts and ends in Freedom Plaza right here in our nation's capital!

4.  You co-lead one of the DCCS weekly runs from Boundary Stone on Wednesday evenings.   Can you tell us a little bit more about this group?

I co-lead the Shaw/Bloomingdale Wednesday Evening Run with my friend and fellow runner, Tyler, which meets at Boundary Stone at 6:30 PM.  We run various courses in the neighborhood, with 3 and 5 mile options, followed by some yummy drinks and eats at the Stone afterwards.  It is a super-fun and relaxed crew and we have all become friends outside of Wednesday nights, as well!
